Impact Statements

What Does a Book Ban
Actually Do to People?

Behind every challenged book is a real person whose access was cut off — a student who lost a mirror, a teacher who self-censored, a librarian who was threatened, a parent who found out too late.

We collect those stories here. An impact statement is a first-person account of how a book ban or challenge affected you. It doesn't need to be long. It just needs to be true.

01
Who can submit
Anyone affected by a book ban or challenge — students, parents, teachers, librarians, community members, or people who simply lost access to a book they needed.
02
What to include
Tell us what happened — what book, where, when, and how it affected you. Be as specific or as general as you're comfortable with. You can submit anonymously.
03

Statements are reviewed before publishing. Once approved, yours will appear on the book's page in our database as primary context for why this book matters.
